iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are both equipped with larger batteries (in comparison with previous versions). However it does not mean that users can forget about charging of devices and enjoy the full functionality of gadgets round the clock – capacity of the products has increased as well, and energy requirement have increased respectively. The company has introduced a tiny, hardly noticeable trick, in order to keep status quo.
Mass media report that dismantling of the new iPhone has revealed two accelerometers in the gadgets: one from InvenSense, the other one – from Bosch. Thus at first nobody had any idea why there are two components. Later it was found out that accelerometers help smartphones to consume less energy.
A six-axial accelerometer from InvenSense which is perfect for games and other apps requiring accurate definition of device position, consumes too much energy. Therefore it was decided to add one more energy saving three-axial accelerometer from Bosch (130 mcA vs. 3,4 mA) which can used whenever filigree accuracy is not important.
Such a simple, at first sight unobvious, but smart solution allows to unload the battery a little bit and to prolong battery life of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
It is difficult to determine, if this solution was successful: “survivability” tests of «sixes» do not give any exact answer to this question yet. Still it’s possible to tell that nothing became worse in comparison with iPhone 5s, but improvements are likely to be insignificant.
